The Medical University of Lodz is the largest state medical university in Poland. The infrastructure of the University serves for both education and research and enables maintenance of high scientific standards. Due to its well-experienced, highly educated academic staff, Medical University of Lodz is internationally recognized in the field of scientific research and participated in several Framework Programs (5 within the 5th FP, 10 within the 6th FP and 16 within the 7th FP).

The Department of Andrology and Reproductive Endocrinology is the leading centre of andrology in Poland and the Clinical Training Centre of the European Academy of Andrology (EAA) since 1995. The medical staff of the Department include 3 medical doctors (Prof. K. Kula - internist, Prof. J. Slowikowska-Hilczer – endocrinologist, Dr E. Oszukowska - urologist), all certified by EAA as clinical andrologists. The staff consists also of 3 biologists with permanent position, laboratory technicians and nurse. Staff members have the experience in the research in the national and international scientific projects, including “Multinational trials on worldwide frequency of a common genetic variant of luteinizing hormone: an international collaborative research” (leader - Prof. I. Huhtaniemi), European Male Aging Study (leader - Prof. FC. Wu), "Improvement of the diagnosis of male reproductive system" (leader - Prof. K. Kula), “Studies on the risk and causes of metabolic disturbances favourable to male ageing in the inhabitants of Lodz aged 20-39” (leader - Prof. J. Slowikowska-Hilczer), “The investigations on appearance of foetal germ cells (carcinoma in situ) in gonads of boys and adult men with the high risk of germ cell carcinoma development” (leader - Prof. J. Slowikowska-Hilczer), “Molecular determinants of gonadal differentiation and development, and their clinical consequences” (leader - Prof. J. Slowikowska-Hilczer).

The Outpatient’s Clinic of Andrology and Reproductive Endocrinology is a part of the Department. Here are consulted patients with hypogonadism, infertility, sexual problems, disturbances of sexual development and puberty (ca. 1000 patients/year). Hormone and biochemical measurements are performed in the laboratories of the Department of Endocrinology and the University Hospital (the same location as the Department of Andrology and Reproductive Endocrinology).
