Institute Presentation

The Department of Endocrinology at the Medizinische Klinik Innenstadt is a tertiary referral centre at the University of Munich for patients with endocrine disorders including DSD. The Department is devoted to translational research using its large patient cohorts and its numerous local, national and international collaborations. The department hosts a clinical study centre and basic science labs in the area of clinical chemistry, cellular and molecular biology and immunology. In the endocrine outpatient clinic, ~100-150 patients/year with DSD are followed. Dr Reisch’s group has a long-standing research focus and clinical experience with patients with DSD focusing on patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Dr Reisch oversees one of Europe’s largest cohorts of patients with CAH in adulthood. This direct patient contact guarantees a seamless transition of patient-orientated clinical research. Additionally, patient recruitment will be greatly facilitated by Dr Reisch who serves as medical advisor for the nationwide self-help group for CAH. Active collaborations with Public Health (Bavarian Newborn Screening Centre including screening for CAH) ensure access to cohort studies. The Children’s Hospital and the Department of Gynaecology lie within 500 metres of the department and each other and ensure additional key facilities found in adjacent buildings and a fruitful collaboration. During her post-doctoral period (2008-10) in Birmingham UK, funded by a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship, Dr. Reisch participated in the FP-funded collaborational project Euro-DSD (PI: Prof W. Arlt). The current research of Dr. Reisch’s group is funded by a Marie Curie European Reintegration Grant and an Else Kröner Memorial Grant. The Hospital of the University of Munich is linked to LMU Muenchen as a ‘third party making resources available to a beneficiary’; see B 2.3.3 (Consortium as a whole, Third Parties).
